Our external steel stair is rusting at the welds. Can it be saved?

Often, if it is caught early. Shot-blasting back to bare metal, repairing any wasted sections and hot-dip galvanising before recoating gives it a second life. Left until the stringer is holed, replacement is the honest answer, and the replacement should be galvanised from new.

We plan those joints in the workshop with proper sleeves so they are invisible, rather than cutting a finished run to fit the vehicle on the day.
